Program Position Summary: Bethel University is seeking a part-time
staff Sign Language Interpreter to support the University's Sign
Language Interpreting Program beginning August 2025. This position
is responsible for providing high-quality interpreting services for
Deaf faculty members in classroom settings, faculty meetings, and
other university-related activities. Responsibilities may include:
Provide sign language interpretation for Deaf faculty in
instructional settings, academic meetings, and campus events.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to facilitate clear
and inclusive communication. Maintain confidentiality and
professional standards consistent with RID and Bethel University
expectations. Coordinate ASL labs and Interpreting class labs.
Coordinate/supervise on-campus interpreting events for students,
including but not limited to Chapel, theater events, and
guest-speaking events. Mentor students for theater events,
including but not limited to plays, musicals, etc. Coordinate the
Community Service & Engagement requirements for students (creative
events, finding events and opportunities, charting students'
progress, etc.). Provide academic advising to students. Meet with
prospective students and oversee proficiency skills tests. Oversee
the aesthetics of lab rooms. Monitor students' attendance for ASL
and Interpreting labs. Manage student workers. Approve student
worker timecards. Create bulletin boards/postings in the
department. Oversee the use of technology/equipment in the lab
rooms. Assist with written English for deaf faculty/staff.
Responsibilities may be delegated or shared depending on staff
schedules and days/time available. Qualifications: Formal
interpreter training and coursework in Deaf Education. Current RID
certification (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf). Experience
interpreting in structured and formal educational or professional
settings. Five to ten years of interpreting experience (preferred,
